Good morning!
Today's brand: Gatorade
Have you ever wondered how the popular sports drink, Gatorade, got its iconic name?
The University of Florida:
The year is 1965. The place? The University of Florida, also known as the home of the ferocious Florida Gators. The problem? The scorching Florida heat was taking a toll on the university's football team. Players were suffering from dehydration and fatigue, hindering their performance on the field.
Science Steps Up:
Enter Dr. Robert Cade, a renowned researcher at the University of Florida's College of Medicine. Alarmed by the plight of the Gators, Dr. Cade and his team set out to create a solution. They studied the effects of sweat and what the body loses during strenuous exercise.
A Winning Formula:
The result of their research was a revolutionary drink – a special blend of electrolytes and carbohydrates designed to replenish what athletes lost through sweat. This scientific concoction not only helped the Florida Gators rehydrate and perform better, but it paved the way for a sports drink phenomenon!
Gators on the Label:
But what about the name? Well, in a tribute to the very team that inspired the drink's creation, Dr. Cade and his team named it "Gatorade" – a clear nod to the University of Florida's beloved mascot, the Gator. It was a way to honor the team that played a pivotal role in Gatorade's origin story.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
