Good morning!
Today's word: Expedia
We all know Expedia, the endless travel options, and the dream of that perfect vacation. But have you ever stopped to wonder where the name "Expedia" comes from?
A Marriage of Exploration and Speed:
The name Expedia is a portmanteau. In this case, it's a powerful union of "exploration" and "speed". Back in 1996, Expedia launched as a division of Microsoft, a time when the internet was revolutionizing the way we travel. Suddenly, booking flights and hotels was no longer a slow, cumbersome process. Expedia embodied this new era of travel – a world of exploration made faster and easier than ever before.
From Microsoft to the Open Road:
Expedia started its journey under the umbrella of the tech giant Microsoft. This early association with innovation and technology perfectly aligned with Expedia's mission of making travel booking a seamless online experience. However, in 1999, Expedia spread its wings and became a public company. This shift allowed for independent growth and strategic partnerships, solidifying Expedia's position as a major player in the online travel industry.
I hope you have a fantastic weekend!
