Good evening!
Today's word: Cab
Hailing a cab – it's a quintessential part of city life, a quick escape from the hustle and bustle. But have you ever stopped to wonder where the word "cab" itself came from?
From Horses to Horsepower:
The term "cab" is actually short for "cabriolet," a light, two-wheeled carriage drawn by a single horse. These elegant conveyances, popular in 18th and 19th century Europe, were often hired for short trips and became synonymous with on-demand transportation.
A Shortened Ride:
As language often does, "cabriolet" was shortened to the snappier "cab" for everyday use. The term perfectly captured the essence of these horse-drawn taxis – a quick and convenient way to get around town.
I hope you have a fantastic week!
